Iowa State softball can’t get past Texas Tech in Big 12 Tournament

Iowa State’s softball season concluded Wednesday evening in the first round of the Big 12 Championship.

The Cyclones (20-31) appeared well on their way to a spot in the second round, but allowed five runs in the final two innings to force extra frames, where Texas Tech earned a 10-9 win. Iowa State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but the Red Raiders kept fighting. Tech finally tied the game at 9-9 in the seventh, taking its only lead of the game in extras on a walk-off home run by Kailey Wyckoff.

Milaysia Ochoa didn’t want her time in an Iowa State uniform to end and put in a stellar performance on Wednesday. She had five RBIs on two hits in her final college game. Angelina Allen posted two doubles

Lauren Schurman started the game in the circle for Iowa State. She gave up three runs on as many hits in three and 2/3 innings of work. Karlie Charles came into the circle in the eighth inning and gave up the home run to Wyckoff, who had two long balls and four RBIs that night.

Drake’s softball season comes to an end at MVC Tournament

The Bulldogs (23-26) saw their season end Wednesday at the MVC tournament, losing 4-1 to Evansville in the opening round.

Drake saw solid performances from Carey Koenig and Frankie Rita on the record. Koenig went 3-for-3 and scored the team’s only run of the day. Rita ended her afternoon 2-for-4 at the dish. Skylar Rigby recorded the lone RBI of the day for the Bulldogs.
