Adam Copeland reveals when AEW talks started after leaving WWEAdam Copeland reveals when AEW talks started after leaving WWE

When the former Edge’s WWE contract expired in September 2023, Adam Copeland made his AEW debut on October 1 of that year.

Arriving in AEW with his WWE theme of Alter Bridge, Copeland reunited with Christian Cage to shake hands with Darby Allin and Sting as the show went off the air.

During an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Copeland revealed details about how the deal came together, saying:

“It happened so quickly. My contract with WWE expired, I want to say September 21st. Then I started talking to Tony (Khan). It was September 22. And WrestleDream was on October 1st. So it all happened within a week.”

The conversation would turn to why he chose to leave WWE when he did, rather than sign a new deal, with Edge stating:

“I felt like I had done everything I was going to do with WWE. I had worked (with) the people I wanted to work with, at least 95 percent of them.

“And it kind of just felt like they were going in a certain direction and I was going in a certain direction and they kind of went their own ways.”

In the interview, Copeland was quoted as saying that he left WWE on good terms.

He is the current AEW TNT Champion and uses the Cope Open as a “vehicle for some young guys to get some different experience.”

Edge was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2012 and is a Grand Slam champion.
