EXAMPLE: Women’s golf opens Friday


MARICOPA, Ariz.—The Chattanooga Mocs start Friday at the National Golf Invitational. The field of ten teams will play 54 holes (18 per day) until Sunday and participate in the second NGI. The Mocs and friends meet at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course.

“We really just want to go to Arizona and finish on a high level,” Coach said Colette Murray explained. “We’ve had so many good rounds this year and played well in almost all of our tournaments. The ending wasn’t what we hoped for, so we’re very grateful to have this opportunity to try to redeem ourselves.

“The NGI winner will receive an invitation to one of the best events in college golf next year, so the stakes really are high.”

The Mocs have the third different starting lineup of the season in Arizona. Sophomore Makenzie Coopera resident of Litchfield Park, Ariz., is joined by junior Alexis Danielsecond year Kera Healey and the first-year duo of Violeta Fernandez Tagle And Giulia Foresta. It’s Daniel’s first start, while the rest of the squad has started every time in 2023-2024.

  • 1st NGI appearance for program in the 2nd year of the tournament.
  • The winner will receive an invitation to the Bruin Wave Invitational, co-hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine.
  • Cooper has a chance to become the first three-time all-season winner in school history. There are five double medalists: 2007-08 (2-Emma de Groot), 2008-09 (2-de Groot), 2015-16 (2-McLennan), 2021-22 (2-Dorota Zalewska) & 2023-24 (2-Cooper).
  • Five top 10s (7 top 15s) for Fernandez-Tagle. All five have competed in six spring events with a top 15 finish each time.
  • Three Mocs with multiple top 10s: Fernandez-Tagle (5), Cooper (3) and Martin (2). The last time with six? 7, Dorota Zalewska2021-22.
  • 36 cards par or better led by Fernandez-Tagle (13). Most since 41 in 2015-2016. 22 are in the 60s under par with eight (Cooper 5).
  • Another card in the 60s for Cooper gets her six. That would put Emily McLennan second all-time in a season at Chattanooga. Zalewska’s 11 last season set the record.
