The Mountain’s Edge Music Festival aims to combine live music and community

Festival season is a beautiful time of year in Las Vegas. Techno lovers have Electric Daisy Carnival, R&B listeners are looking forward to Lovers & Friends (sorry, too early?) and thrashers have Punk Rock Bowling. And while these mega-fests draw national audiences, there’s something special about a family-friendly, homegrown musical gathering.

For those looking for an outdoor experience with local charm, Mountain’s Edge Music Festival has you covered. Tucked in picturesque Exploration Peak Park, this hidden gem is a beacon of community spirit.

Previously known for its country music vibe, the festival has undergone a transformation, abandoning its ties to the genre to embrace and showcase a wide range of musical styles. “We’re going to bring in new music and some veteran artists who already have a good following and can draw a good audience,” said Austi Martines, lifestyle director of Mountain’s Edge Master Association.

In the previous edition in 2018, the festival focused exclusively on country music. This time it is a community-driven endeavor, organized by the association and led by Martines himself. Drawing on her personal experiences and passion for music festivals, Martines has put together an eclectic lineup featuring acts such as Authority Zero, Anders, The Higher and more. Local bands include synth-driven post-punk act Social Order, indie rock group Theguiltyparty and Carol-Lyn’s All Stars, a cover band that plays fan favorites from Journey, Pat Benatar, Heart and more.

Martines is personally looking forward to seeing Neon Union, a country music duo recently nominated for New Duo/Group of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. From punk and hard rock to pop and country, there is something for everyone.

The festival promises a variety of attractions that go beyond just music. VIP ticket holders ($70) can enjoy a luxurious experience complete with liquor and beer tasting stations, a taco board, special viewing areas and access to the air-conditioned bathroom. For those looking to add some flair to their festival experience, an airbrush tattoo station awaits with temporary tattoos that will last for days.

Foodies will delight in the range of culinary delights served up by six different food trucks, satisfying both savory and sweet cravings. And for those looking for a break from the musical festivities, yard games like cornhole, giant Jenga and Connect 4 provide the perfect opportunity to unwind.

“Vegas is growing so quickly and we have seen a decline in attendance at the outdoor events,” Martines said. “It’s rare that we have these really small music festivals in Las Vegas, especially when they’re family-friendly.”

Organizers are well aware of the importance of creating a healthy yet exciting environment, with the aim of revitalizing outdoor events in the fast-growing neighbourhood.

“I do this for the community,” says Martines, underscoring the festival’s role in fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among residents.

With its diverse lineup, culinary delights and range of activities, Mountain’s Edge Music Festival is poised to usher in a new experience for live music and community engagement.

MOUNTAIN’S EDGE MUSIC FESTIVAL May 11, noon, Exploration Peak Park, seetickets.us. $20-$70.
