The emerging Laois footballer marks himself in Bray Wanderers history

Laois footballer Peter Grogan has equaled a goalscoring record for League of Ireland First Division club Bray Wanderers

The Crettyard teenager achieved the feat after five consecutive matches.

He is among a small list of players to have achieved this, with only Colm Tresson in 2000 and Ger Pender in 2016 achieving the feat for the club.

He has been in tremendous form, scoring six goals for the League of Ireland First Division side this season.

His record-equalling goal came within two minutes, away against Cobh Ramblers in a 2–1 defeat.

Grogan had a chance to increase his goal tally on Monday, but despite his side beating Finn Harps 1-0, he failed to score.

They will be back in action next Friday when his side travel to Athlone, where they can leapfrog Athlone and potentially move into second place with a win if UCD make a mistake in Kerry.

The Laois Forward is aiming to fire his side into the country’s Premier Division for the first time since 2018 and with his current form this could be an achievable goal.

With Bray winning three of their last five games thanks to Grogan’s scoring, it may not be long before we see another Laois footballer in the top division.

Whatever happens for Wanderers this season, their top scorer Grogan will certainly be an integral part of the club.
