Lesson Plan – Global Golf Post

JOanna Coe, PGA director of instruction at Merion Golf Club, has turned the elusive dream of a life in professional golf into a life she dreamed of.

Coe, from Haverford, Pennsylvania, grew up playing public golf in southern New Jersey and went on to become a four-time All-American at Rollins College, where he won the 2008 NCAA Division II title and led the Tars to the team championship as a freshman led.

Following her ambitions, she qualified for the US Women’s Open in 2011 and played on the LPGA’s Symetra Tour (now known as the Epson Tour) from 2012-2015.

At qualifying school in 2016, Coe began to feel the doubts of tour life and realized she was not happy.

“I felt like my identity was my score,” she said. “…. The instability started to irritate me, the loneliness on tour, the constant numbers and the worries about budget cuts. I thought it was time for a change. I knew I wouldn’t stay there forever to give it a try.
