What you need to know: Bruins at Panthers | Game 2

Forbort returns

Derek Forbort was in the lineup for Game 1, marking his first game action since March 2, when he required multiple surgical procedures that sidelined him for about two months. The veteran blue liner played 18:03 in his return.

“The great work ethic, wanting to come back and play, has dealt with a lot of injuries this year,” Montgomery said. “Just the fact that he is a good guy in the locker room, has a great sense of humor and cares about his teammates is a good addition to the locker room.”

Forbort said his two-game conditioning stint at Providence last month helped him knock off some rust as he continued toward his return to the Bruins.

“It helped to go down and play two games in the minors, playing 5-on-5 and I just did a good job of doing a lot of little games and stuff (during rehab skating) just to try to get my getting my fitness back and my playmaking,” said Forbort, who acknowledged some rust and tired legs in a “good” return in Game 1.

“In this whole process where it kind of came to a standstill, I had to have surgery, that was my goal to try to get back as quickly as possible. (Manager of Player Rehabilitation) Scotty (Waugh) and (head physiotherapist) Joe (Robinson) have been a great help.”
