Hello Madrid! Joselu scores twice as Real advance to the Champions League final

MADRID, Spain, May 9 – Real Madrid snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Joselu scored twice at the death to give them a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in a thrilling UEFA Champions League semi-final match second leg at Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Merengues were on the brink of elimination when Bayern substitute Alphonso Davies fired a right-footed curler past Andriy Lunin in the 66th minute to put the Bundesliga giants ahead after a period of domination by the hosts.

Davies almost went from hero to villain shortly afterwards when he accidentally diverted a Fede Valverde shot into his own net.

However, the goal was disallowed after a VAR review found that Madrid defender Nacho had fouled Bayern right-back Joshua Kimmich in the build-up to the equalizer.

With the clock ticking, Carlo Ancelotti removed Rodrygo – who had been a passenger for much of the match – in favor of Brahim Diaz and Valverde for Joselu.

His changes paid off in the 88th minute when Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer spilled a Vinicious Junior shot, with Joselu ready to pounce for the equalizer.

The goal appeared to revive the LaLiga champions, with Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel having replaced Bundesliga top scorer Harry Kane, winger Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala.

With nine minutes of extra time, Madrid were finally rewarded for their pressure when Joselu latched onto Toni Rudiger’s cross from the left and sent a half-volley into the net.

The goal was initially disallowed for offside, before the referee ruled it in their favor after a VAR review.

Real will now face another German side, Borussia Dortmund, in the final on June 1 at Wembley Stadium in England.
