David Seaman has called on Bukayo Saka and other Premier League stars to stop feigning injuries during matches.

Saka, 22, was on the receiving end of an ugly challenge from Ryan Christie in Arsenal’s recent 3-0 win over Bournemouth, although he was able to continue playing after treatment.

The tackle, which left Saka writhing in pain, left the England star with a cut on his shin. Seaman, a former Gunners favourite, initially seethed in support of the challenge but quickly changed his mind after reviewing the tackle in a replay.

Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, he said: “When I saw the tackle I immediately thought: ‘That’s a red card!’ He went over the top of the ball, but then picked it up on his knee and dragged it down his shin.

“(But) it wasn’t even a yellow card. I know the VAR cannot give him a yellow card, they can only give him a red card.”

One frustrated sailor added about Saka and his extravagant response to the tackle: “He also has to wave constantly as that is normally used as a signal to the physio bench when you are in trouble.

“It’s not just Saka, I’ve seen a lot of other players do it now. That was always the signal that you are really hurt, so that they can get ready very quickly to continue as soon as the referee signals them.
