Record-breaking season ends at NCAA Regional

EAST LANSING, MI – Illinois State’s record-breaking efforts during the 2023-2024 season continued until the end of the season, when the Redbirds recorded their lowest NCAA Regional team score in program history (918), and By Jinyoung Yun 221 in three rounds is the lowest score by an ISU golfer in an NCAA Regional.

The 918 achieved by the ‘Birds for the three rounds surpasses the previous record of 929 set at ISU’s home track during the 2004 season. Yun’s 221 was one stroke better than Samantha Richdale’s 222 during the same season, which was held on a par-71 course. The lowest individual par-72 score was a 225 by Rachel Powers in 2013.

Among the other records set during the season are a low individual scoring average (72.6 out of 72.6). Jinyoung Yun), lowest average career score (75.8 per Avalon Woodward), most career laps and strokes (133 and 10,122 by Ali Schrock), the lowest single-season scoring average (297.4, the previous record was 303.5) and the total number of rounds at or under par for a team (35)

ISU had three golfers – Yun, Schrock and Woodward – who each carded a 74 in the final round, while Vinisha Gunaseelan got an 81 and Michaela Kverkova an 82. For Schrock, Woodward, Gunaseelan and Kverkova, it was their last round as collegiate golfers.

Yun finished 27th in the field over the three rounds, while Schrock finished in 31st place.
