Northeast Electric Workers face off in the annual NEPPA Rodeo

HULL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – 16 teams of power line workers competed in events that tested their electrical skills during the Northeast Public Power Association’s annual rodeo Wednesday.

NEPPA Rodeo Committee Chairman Ken Stone said the competitions were intended to simulate real workplace scenarios.

“We have a little fun with it here and there, but for the most part, all the events represent real life situations and events that could happen in the real world,” Stone said.

Stone called one of those contests the “wounded man rescue.” Without the help of a box truck, teams climbed a utility pole to rescue a dummy hanging from the top.

Most teams managed this feat within two minutes.

Other events included transformer replacement and pole climbing.

The New Hampshire Electric Cooperative won the biggest prize of all at the end of the entire competition, bragging rights.
